I had the privilege of playing softball for Dr. Irwin and can attest he is a doctor and man of the highest caliber. Having said that his autobiography is a brutally honest and multilayered reflection of an extremely talented man worts and all. Ron has been faced with many challenges in his life and has tackled them head on through his intelligence, ethics and courage. His book is very well written and provocative. There is a lot to learn from Dr. Irwin. Do yourself a favor, pick up this wonderfully interesting book and embark on one man's journey into an ultimately fulfilling life.Product details

An enjoyable read. Through the ups and downs of an amazing career and family life. So happy Dr. Irwin is in a place where he is enjoying life!
Imperfect is a an important read for anyone who has or is facing challenges from a dysfunctional family or faced challenges of alcoholism or being addicted to one's work. "Doc Ron" first admits all of his struggles and then goes on to elaborate on how he has been able to take on the demons of these issues and beat them and move on to a medical career that has been instrumental in helping many patients some of whom their lives were and continue to be extended due to efforts of 'Doc" and his associates. Hardworking people in the medical field (who work long and crazy hours) probably will benefit the most from this book but others in different careers can derive encouragement from this read as well..
Finally, I was disappointed to read one negative and personal criticism of "Doc Ron" and this book. I can only surmise this had to come from a disgruntled or unhappy co-worker or employee. Nothing can be done about that comment, but I can say this is certainly not my experience with "Doc Ron" as I have had pleasure of getting to know him in the last several years.
Many people find it therapeutic to make confessions. Usually these are in the privacy of a confessional box or in deep meditation. In this fascinating and revealing book, He faithfully describes the errors of his life, described with a deft writing style that makes you wish to hurry on to the next page and the next. The difference is that Dr. Irwin is willing to share his imperfections as an object lesson to others. Although, Dr. Irwin’s book has a mea culpa theme, in telling his story, he is required to reveal his triumphs as well and his many contributions to medicine and saving countless lives. A powerful story about overcoming the odds. To enter medical school having not grown up as a privileged youth. Chose a medical specialty with such poor outcomes in its early years. And succeed to become one of the most respected surgeons in his field. Not always easy along the way, the success stories and sadly those whom cannot be saved. Always giving his all, weather it's his pacients or butting heads with administration. Having my own child benefiting from his expertise, but never knowing the whole story of his personal life. Just amazing memoir.
